I have been thinking about changing the belt system for quite a while now.
The belt system we use is taken from The UK All styles karate organization & UK Martial arts federation and we have used their system since i first became an independent instructor Apx 16 years ago.
it is a traditional Japanese belt system and was appropriate at that time as we took part in many courses run by ,and through UKASKO/UKMAF.
i do not want to use the system from the UK Tang Soo Do Federation as i like people to be able to see quite easily that although we are Tang Soo Do, we are different and totally independent from UKTSD.
I have looked at the belt system used by McHenrys TSD (see the link Nigel gas put on the forum) and feel this would provide a good alternative.
White (9th Gup) - Beginner
Yellow (8th Gup) - Beginner
Orange (7th Gup) - Beginner
Green (6th Gup) - Intermediate
Blue (5th Gup) - Intermediate
Purple (4th Gup) - Intermediate
Brown (3rd Gup) - Advanced
Red (2nd Gup) - Advanced
Red with Black Strip (1st Gup) - Advanced, Senior Student
Black & Red (Poom) - Junior Black Belt, under the age of 16
Midnight Blue or Black 1 stripe (1st Dan) - Assistant Instructor
Midnight Blue or Black 2 stripes (2nd Dan) - Instructor
Midnight Blue or Black 3 stripes (3rd Dan) - Senior Instructor
Midnight Blue or Black w/Red Strip (4th Dan) - Master Instructor
Midnight Blue or Black w/Red Strip (5th - 7th Dan) - Master
Grandmaster (8th Dan - 9th Dan)
as you can see, most of the belts would remain the same and i am able to get the red belt and the red belt with the black stripe from Blitz.
Please leave feedback on the forum as to if you like the idea or not.
If you would not like us to adopt this belt system please state why not.
If we decide to adopt the system it will probably come into force with our march grading 2010.
Regards
Ian
